The Greene
Academy of Irish Dancing was
established in 1993, and is under the direction of
Sondra Greene ADCRG. Sondra Greene is a fully accredited teacher
qualified by the Irish Dancing Commission, Dublin,
Ireland. In addition, Sondra has also received
certification as an Irish Dance adjudicator.
Sondra judges competitions at local, regional, and
national levels throughout the United States and Canada.
In 1993 the school began in a small garage with 8
students. It has now grown to over 150 students in two
locations. The students of the Greene Academy
participate in dancing competitions throughout North
America including major championships such as the North American
Irish Dance Championships and the World Championships.
The philosophy of the Greene Academy is to impart a
love of Irish dancing and culture. Through weekly
lessons, dancers are guided towards improvement in skill
and technique and challenged to perform in various
competitions. Equally important to the student's enjoyment of dancing,
is the establishment of friendships among the dancers,
and learning to support each other and work as a team.
Team dancing, such as figure dancing, figure
choreography and dance drama, are emphasized in addition
to solo dancing.
Dancers from the Greene Academy are available for
entertainment at parties, weddings, dances, and special
events. Contact Sondra for more information.
The Greene Academy of Irish Dancing offers traditional
step dancing classes from young children to adults.
Classes are held at the Greene Academy Studio in San Jose and
also in Palo Alto.
